First of all, a big, big THANK YOU for visiting my page.
I've been so impressed by the work of the Donald Woods Foundation that I have committed myself to running the British 10K run on the 12th July '09 (admittedly, I wasn't in complete control of my faculties at the time)!
For those of you that know me, you'll know I'm not the most likely candidate for this and although many of you reckon 'it's not that bad', I’m getting seriously worried. So please, I need all your moral, but mostly your financial support, to spur me on.
The Donald Woods Foundation does loads of excellent work in the poorer areas of , around the Mbashe region. Helping to alleviate suffering and poverty through education and health care programmes; building schools and HIV~Aids clinics etc.
This particular fundraising effort is to raise money for their maternal health programme. Married and child-bearing women have a much higher risk of contracting HIV in South Africa and this programme encourages early screening, provides anti-natal care and aims to provide patient emergency transport, which is currently non existent and would make the largest single impact on their goal to ensure that no woman or child goes without medical intervention during birth and lives can be saved.
