Malawi is the 4th poorest country in the world and the average person in Malawi lives only 37 years due to malaria, cholera, HIV/AIDS and malnutrition. Today, there are more than 2 million orphans in Malawi of whom 8% will not survive beyond 12 months. Access to health facilities are dire with villagers carting severely ill persons more than 14km in a wheelbarrow.
We have been thinking about how we can unleash their potential in one generation by empowering them with the skills and infrastructure to fend for themselves.
Unleashing Potential is working to establish a mobile health clinic in Katema which was selected as a central site by our partner organisation in Malawi. Our intention is to provide accessible medical facilities and a real ambulance for villagers using Katema as a hub while educating them on how to prevent illnesses as well. We have partnered with Doctors Worldwide who have many years of international experience establishing health facilities and will be sending medical consultants to oversee the operation.
