This page in memory of Val has been set up by her three children - Sarah, Ruth and Alistair - and her sister, Sue.
Val was first diagnosed with breast cancer in 2001 but never let the disease dominate her life. In the past eight years she went on exotic and adventurous holidays, took up tai chi, worked as an advisor for Citizens' Advice, chaired The Villagers in Little Hallingbury, walked her dog every day and continued to be a hands-on and supportive Mum.
Sadly she passed away on October 20th, 2009, after being diagnosed with a brain tumour. She was determined to beat it until the very end.
Val wanted to spend her last days at home and in her memory we are fund-raising for Isabel Hospice, which provided us with advice and help 24 hours a day, nurses who would spend the night and our own personal support worker. They did it all for free and we would have had a much harder time without them. Any money you can spare, so other families in our situation also get that vital help, would be brilliant.
