My story....................
I have been an officer in the 14th North West Durham Boys Brigade for over 10 years now and all of the boys that I have met over the years have a place in my heart. One young man who has been a member of our company since he was in Anchor Boys was diagnosed with bone cancer (osteosarcoma) at the end of last year. He is a real asset to our company, always a willing volunteer for any event (even the scripture quiz!), takes great pride in his uniform and is well liked among his contempories and officers alike. An all round fantastic kid! I don't think I have ever met anyone braver and I am very proud that he is part of our company.
The charity information bit..............
The aim of the charity is to fund research into this devastating cancer that frequently affects young people and about which so little is currently known. To date we have funded eighteen pieces of research with a total value of over £600,000 with another round of applications being reviewed by our scientific advisory panel. We hope that this will be a step towards improving the outcome for patients. The Bone Cancer Research Trust was formed in 2005 as an alliance of a number of established local charities and groups of family and friends of Primary Bone Cancer patients throughout Britain and Ireland. They share a common goal – to promote research into the causes and treatment of Primary Bone Cancer, and in particular of osteosarcoma and Ewing’s sarcoma.
The Trust has now widened its membership to include Bone Cancer Patients, Medical Practitioners and anyone interested in supporting research into these disabling and life-threatening diseases.
