The Psoriasis Association is the leading national charity working for people with psoriasis. We provide information, advice and support via a comprehensive website, email and telephone helpline to people who have psoriasis or whose lives are affected by it. We aim to raise awareness of the condition that affects 2-3% of the population. The Psoriasis Association also funds research into the causes, treatment and care of psoriasis.
The Psoriasis Association also supports those with Psoriatic Arthritis.
Psoriatic arthritis is an inflammatory joint disease associated with psoriasis. Like all arthritis, psoriatic arthritis can cause stiffness, pain and lack of movement in affected areas. It most commonly affects the joints in the hands and feet, but can also cause inflammation, swelling and pain in larger joints, including the knees, elbows, hips and the spine. The inflammation in psoriatic arthritis can also affect the tendons (the fibrous tissue that attaches the muscle to the bone).
Both of these diseases can be debilitating and make's day to day life extremely difficult and painful for the sufferer. Unfortunately the treatments currently available are often just as bad as or worse than the disease itself. I would like to raise money for the Psoriasis Association to go towards medical research and possibly finding effective treatment which can help people live with this disease. Or maybe one day and it's a very big maybe, but maybe one day a cure.
I would also like to support the Psoriasis Association in supporting people who have these conditions as it can be very frightening and lonely and the support they provide is essential in people living with this illness.
But most of all I would like to take some time to raise the awareness of Psoriasis and Psoriatic Arthritis.
