Maccabi GB is planning to take its largest ever squad to the European Maccabi Games, which will be held in Vienna, Austria, between 5th-13th July 2011. Maccabi GB in partnership with UJIA is excited to announce the Junior Badminton squad that will be representing Maccabi GB at this summer’s European Maccabi Games. The Games take place every four years and Team GB will be the largest delegation in Vienna, with almost 200 sports men and women across almost twenty sports. There will be over 2,500 Jewish athletes from 30 European countries in total!  This is a once in a life time opportunity. The squad is made up of 6 boys: Harrison Baum, Dan Cohen, David Garcia, Yossi Goodlink, Sammy Kingston and Ben Winters who are all looking to impress in Vienna. Between them they have a great deal of experience having all represented their schools and a few of the boys have even represented their Counties. Of the squad, 4 members attend Yavneh College and their Head teacher, Dr Dena Coleman, is extremely proud, “Being chosen to represent Maccabi GB in this summer’s European Games in Vienna is a great honour. There are only six places in the team, so we very proud that four of the places have been filled by Yavneh College pupils. We wish Harrison, Yossi, Sammy, Ben and the team every success.” The squad is being managed by Samantha Baum who added, “It is a great honour to be managing a Junior Badminton team representing Maccabi GB in the European Maccabi Games for the first time in nearly 20 years.  The boys are putting in so much hard work and I am sure they will benefit from not only a wonderful experience but hopefully a successful one.” The squad have already been training hard and played their first competitive match on Monday night against SCOBE of the Hertfordshire Schools Badminton Association Junior Badminton League. They won 11 of the 12 matches played proving that their hard work is paying off.
