Hello, my name is Vincent McKenna and I am a student from Northern Ireland. In the summer of 2010 I will be travelling to Guatemala as part of a team to help build houses for those living in sub-standard conditions with Habitat for Humanity.

Each leader and team member has to raise £2000, making that a grand total of £32,000 to raise in total!

It is estimated that there is a staggering 80% housing deficit in Guatemala, with many families living in make-shift shelters or severly over-crowded rooms.  Habitat for Humanity builds more houses in Guatemala than any other organisation, even the government, and many famlies have testified that if it were not for Habitat, they would not have their own home.

While in Guatemala our team will be labourers.  They will dig foundations, transport materials, mix cement and build walls.  However, of equal importance, they will bring hope to a country that has been through some devestating natural and human disasters. To quote Habitat for Humanity NI we are about "Building houses, building hope, building communities".
