Many thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
On 19th February 2010 I am flying to Tanzania to trek up Mount Kilimanjaro - the highest peak in Africa & the world's highest freestanding, snow-covered equatorial mountain.
I am doing this to raise money for The Big Issue Foundation which provides homeless and vulnerably housed people an opportunity for legitimate employment, self-respect and a path away from begging, crime and living on the street. Appropriately, the Kilimanjaro summit - Uhuru - means "Freedom" in Swahili.
This trek is also a personal Big Issue -
On 19th February 2008 I was so unfit I couldn't walk 100 yards without needing to use ventolin. I embarked on a process of getting healthy and fit. In June 2008 I walked a 5km race, in July 2009 I ran the same 5km race, in September 2009 I did a Midnight half-marathon walk and in February 2010 I hope to reach the Uhuru Summit of Kilimanjaro (5896m).
I hope you will support me in this challenge by raising money for The Big Issue Foundation. The work they do enables people who are desparate and hopeless to take their first steps up what must seem an insurmountable mountain.
