When?
Our next Walk for Water will be on Saturday 25 September 2010.
Registration from 10:00.  The Walk starts at 10:30.

This will be a circular walk based in Eyam, in the Peak District National Park. Eyam has particular resonance for us, because it was the first town in England to have a piped water supply.

Our walk starts and ends at the car park, Hawkhill Road (opposite the Museum). From the B6521 turn into Church Street, Eyam, turning right after Eyam Hall. The car park is on your right. (Bus no. 65 leaves Sheffield Interchange at 0925 arriving at Church Street at 1015.) You will find our banner and registration table in a corner of the car park.

The longer walk (10km): Leaving Eyam village (via the renowned pie shop) at 1030, we will pass the plague graves then walk through the woods to the Derwent Valley Heritage Way; after an easy stroll through Grindleford, visiting Padley Chapel, and on towards Hathersage, we will cross Eyam Moor, exploring stone circles and turnpike roads on our route back to Eyam village. Please note the longer walk includes stiles, crossing moorland, and steep uphill and downhill sections on rough terrain.

A shorter walk option (5km) will explore the landscape that tells the story of the local lead mining, cotton and silk industries, and the devastation wrought by the Bubonic Plague in 1665.

For both walks, walkers must wear suitable footwear and carry waterproofs. Remember to bring plenty to drink, a packed lunch, and a snack.

After our walk, we will return to Eyam in plenty of time to enjoy the many attractions of this lovely village. The Museum is well worth a visit, as is the Saxon Cross in the churchyard, the Church itself which dates from 1150, and Eyam Hall, a fine example of the houses built by Derbyshire gentry.

How much?
We ask all walkers to donate £10 per person (£15 per couple or family with children under 16), OR to gather sponsorship of more than £50 – or a combination of the two! Information and merchandise will be available before and after the walk.
