My story

MUSLIM CHARITY

Good health begins with access to clean water. We take it for granted, we waste it, and we even pay too much to drink it from little plastic bottles. And still, today, nearly 1 billion people in the developing world don't have access to it. Clean, safe drinking water is scarce. It is the foundation of life, a basic human need. Yet today, all around the world, far too many people spend their entire day searching for it.

In 2010 almost 1000 water systems around the world were sponsored through Muslim Charity benefiting approximately 320,250 people

Muslim Charity’s Water Project will carry a special focus this year on Pakistan and Somalia. Additionally, the program will deliver in:

Bangladesh                        India     Kashmir    Sierra Leone

Donors can sponsor:

·         £150 for a Hand Pump in Asia

·        £300 for a complete Water Tanker/Truck in Somalia

·        £600 for a Water Well (ASIA)

·        £2,500 for a Deep Water Well (AFRICA)

Global Water Shortage Facts

Water and sanitation crisis claims more lives through disease than any war through guns

Nearly 1 billion people don't have safe water to drink.

A child dies every 15 seconds from a lack of clean water.

At any one time, half of the world's hospital beds are occupied by patients suffering from water-borne diseases..

In developing countries, about 80% of illnesses are linked to poor water and sanitation conditions.

Somalia

Worst drought in East Africa since the 1950's

Many of the new arrivals have walked for days or weeks to get to camps, desperate to escape not only from the drought in Somalia

Water catchment areas in Somalia have also dried up, displacing up to 400,000 people

         Pakistan

•        World Health Organization reported that in 2010, 10 million people were forced to drink unsafe water

•        200,000 children in Pakistan die every year due to diarrhoeal diseases alone

•        World Health Organisation reckons that 80% of  all  infections  are  traceable  to  poor  water  conditions.  5,483  people  die  daily  of water  caused  diarrhoea    90  percent  are  children  under  five.
