In 2011 I set myself the target of getting 100 Rejections and asked you to sponsor me for them in aid of the Archer Project which provides hot meals, showers and a range of other assistance to homeless and vulnerable people in Sheffield.
It was my dad's charity: he was a director of it for almost 20 years.
Why rejections? Because I had spent too long trying to be a writer and getting disheartened if people rejected my work. So decided to stop thinking about publication, and focus on something different. On sending stories out. On sending out LOTS of stories! And to encourage myself to do that, I counted the rejections. And it was like a breath of fresh air. Rejections are good! Rejections mean that you're trying. As Beckett said, try again, fail again, fail better!
So a big thank you to everyone who sponsored me, to everyone who put up with me asking them for money afterwards, and to everyone who came along and donated money anyway.
I actually achieved 68 rejections in the year (that's why you'll find a lot of £6.80s in amongst the donations
You'll find me on twitter (@wendybradley) and I blog on livejournal at http://couchspudprotem.livejournal.com. Stop on by some time!
