Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

My granddaughter, Heidi, has been diagnosed with a rare blood disorder, with further complications. She has struggled since birth and after a difficult year with hospital stays, three blood transfusions, a bone marrow biopsy, numerous scans and tests, a naso-gastric tube, a gastrostomy(insertion of feeding tube direct to stomach), Heidi has finally been diagnosed with Diamond Blackfan Anaemia. At the age of two she has already had more blood tests then most of us have in a life-time.

Despite her illness, Heidi is a wonderfully enthusiastic and happy child; she has a beautiful character.

The first two years of her life have not been easy for Heidi or her family. They value the support and information provided by the DBA.

Together the family face an uncertain future but they do it with such positivity and the hope that ongoing research may ultimately lead to a cure .

Inspite of being a total non-running, pensioner, grandmother I am going to try and run 13.1 miles in GNR in September. I have been running alternate days since January, slowly and painfully working my way up from one minute runs towards the seemingly unreachable 13.1 mile target.. Still a long way to go but I am continually bolstered by the generosity of family and friends sponsoring this fund raising effort on behalf of Heidi and the DBA community. The DBA is a small charity, run entirely by volunteers and it relies on individual fund raising efforts.

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity. So it’s the most efficient way to donate – saving time and cutting costs for the charity.

About the charity
