A festive Christmas challenge to remember for a lifetime...

This 3 day, 87Km journey down one of the most beautiful rivers New Zealand has to offer is not exactly going to be a walk in the park! We will be waking up early Christmas Eve morning, and be setting off on our 'Little Big' adventure travelling for 3 days down this river with not much more than a Santa hat and some dried noodle cups. This is going to be a huge challenge, but nevertheless, an experience of a lifetime, and what better reason to do it than to raise money for children that really need our help.

Day 1 - 24th December 2011 - Wake up at 6.15am, get to our meeting spot in Ohakune to pick up our boats, paddles and camping gear. It is then an hour and a half drive to the start of the river. Once we are all set to go, we are off and left to navigate ourselves to John Coull Camping Ground which is 28k further down the river where we will setting up our tents and staying the night, then waking up Christmas Day morning!

Day 2 - 25th December 2011 (Christmas Day!) - Wake up nice and early(ish) and attempt to make out Christmas breakfast on our portable cooking stove (which again, may result in dried noodle cups). Pack our tents away and head back out onto the river, where we have a further 32k to cover before we reach our next check point! Let's see how sore we all are from paddling so far the day before!!

Day 3 - 26th December 2011 (Boxing Day) - If you thought we would have a cushty last day with only a few km of paddling to go, think again. The 3rd day is just as hard with 27km left to paddle until we reach our final desination on the river, although, the part of the river we cover today is said to be one of the most beautiful of the whole of Whanganui River, through Whanganui National Park. Our finial desination, Pipiriki, where we will be met at 2pm by our driver to take us back to Ohakune.

This trip is in aid of millions of disabled/disadvantaged children and young people nationwide who are in much need of specialist facilities in order for them to achieve every potential in their childhood sports. It is not as easy for these kids to enjoy sport as facilities can be few and far in between. Your donation is a key part of the process of providing these children with the opportunity to really excel in sports and recreational activites.

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.

A SMILE FOR A CHILD helps disabled and disadvantaged children and young people to progress in sport. This is done by buying sports equipment for them to use . It could be something small and simple to something large like a sports wheelchair. Whatever it is the charity wants it to make a difference to that childs life.

Guys this is for a really really great cause and we would all GREATLY appreciate you digging deep and donating to this amazing charity!!
