124 Fd Sqn (V) are the  Royal Engineers TA Squadron based in Cumbernauld and are entering the Great Scottish Run Half Marathon 2009 to raise money for the Craighalbert Centre, a charity based in Cumbernauld which helps children with cerebral palsy and other neurological impairments that cause difficulties with movement.  It’s a day-school and nursery and also has an outreach service for children who live further away, and who come from across Scotland to attend the Centre.

Some of the members of our Squadron have had the opportunity to visit the Centre and meet some of the children, and we were so impressed that we decided we wanted to get involved in raising money to help fund the Centre’s additional services.  These are the services that don’t get funding from other sources and so rely entirely on fundraising for their very survival.  These services include:

- the Parent & Baby Group, for children aged from birth to two years and their parents

- the Siblings Group, a support group for brothers and sisters of children who attend the outreach service

- the hydrotherapy pool, which costs in excess of £33,500 a year to operate and maintain

- the Family Support Service, which provides vital support and information to the families of children attending the Centre

So you can see that by sponsoring us, you’ll be helping to make a big difference to the children who attend the Craighalbert Centre, and their families.

Please dig deep!
