Day 3 was mostly downhill and we had nice weather

Day 2 was hard with some very long steep and shorter very very steep hills. The weather was atrocious, raining all day...so very few picture opportunities

I plan to do the C2C Cycle Route - from the West coast of England to the East coast. It's 140 miles from Whitehaven on the West coast to Tynemouth (Newcastle) on the East coast and I plan to do this over 3 days (there are some BIG hills in the way as it goes over the Lake District and The Penine Way!)

As I'm currently 20 Stone, I'll be aiming to lose a bit of weight beforehand - but regardless of how that pans out I will be cycling this route in August.

I would love for you to donate some money to a local charity that I think deserves some recognition - St Helenas Hospice. They do tremendous work to help people with terminal illnesses to enjoy their lives.

I have no target figure - but I would just love to raise as much for this charity as I possibly could.

Every penny you donate will be straight to the charity. Accomodation, travel and any other requirements will be at my own expense.

So it's here. Day 1 is tomorrow The knee is behaving. I went out on a 20 miler today to give it a run through and it was fine - though there were no massive hills I'm looking forward to it now. Davey and Andy are booked in in Carlisle. Sorry Grant can't make it More to follow

I'm currently getting all my kit ready - change of clothing - maps - phone GPS software - phone portable chargers - phone handlebar holder - new grippier tyres - new "self seal" inner tubes - saddle bag for essentials - mini maps - bungees for extra kit It's all coming together

10 days to go. My knee injury is much better - but this week is my first week on a bike in 4 weeks! It's slightly painful going up hills or starting off pedalling - but there's a week left so I should be fine. It'll be done regardless. Really looking forward to it

I hope to post pictures each day, but that will depend on internet availability. It may have to wait until I'm back. Accomodation booked. Friends ready (Davey Blackmore and two more riders have joined us - Andy McIntyre, Grant Boardman - welcome aboard) Roll on the 24th August!

Only 4 weeks to go now and I'm very excited. I'm hoping for good weather as it's such a beautiful part of the country - but then I guess we're all hoping for good weather! I'm up to 150 miles cycling a week with my biggest ride being 52 miles in 3.5 hours everaging 15-16mph.
