Event: Virgin London Marathon 2013, on 21 April 2013
We support babies, children and families to improve the lives of sick children.

Story

I am a Consultant Paediatric Surgeon at Chelsea Childrens Hospital. Along with my colleagues we provide a specialist Paediatric Surgery service to the North West of London.

We are currently running an appeal  which aims to raise over £1million to buy Pluto the Robot for Chelsea and Westminster Hospital. This will be the first Paediatric surgical robot in the South of England, with the only other robot in the country being based in Leeds. Pluto would enable our surgeons to perform intricate surgery on babies and children with more precision, better recovery times, shorter hospital stays and smaller scars.

I decided to take on the challenge of the London marathon to raise funds for the Robot appeal. I have always been fairly sporty playing rugby, cricket and football in my younger years but had never really run continuously for more than about a mile! The Marathon is a daunting prospect but training is under way and progressing nicely

Pluto the robot will make an enormous difference to the lives of thousands of children in the UK, and your support will help to make it a reality.

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.
