Hello Everyone
I am taking part in a Professional Volunteer Placement for an International Development Organisation in Bangladesh called BRAC (Building Resources Across Communities). The volunteer programme is organised by BRAC UK (a registered UK charity – www.bracuk.net) in association with VSO & DFID (UK Dept for International Development).
My placement will be with the social development department at BRAC head office based in Dhaka Bangladesh, which works closely with women from disadvantaged backgrounds and helps them to reintegrate with society and gain qualifications to enable them to become independent.
History of BRAC
BRAC was founded in the aftermath of Bangladesh’s war of independence in 1971 and has since grown to be the largest Southern NGO in the world with its range of holistic programmes in economic and social development, health, education, and human rights and legal services. It is a highly regarded and effective organisation, and currently operates in Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Southern Sudan, Sri Lanka, Tanzania, Uganda, UK and USA.
I will be doing a 3 week placement with BRAC in Bangladesh, with the trip part funded by DFID. However, I am required to raise funds through sponsorship to cover part of the costs, so please support me. For more information on BRAC and the work they do, please follow these links.
