Story
On Saturday 15 June, an eclectic bunch of twelve young and old and very old jockeys have been invited to ride in a nine furlong race on the Knavesmire with the purpose of raising money for the Macmillan Cancer Support. I am one of those of the very old kind.
The feature race of Saturday is the most valuable sprint handicap for three year old horses in Europe, the Charity Sprint Trophy. Our race is pretty important too (because the riders are hoping to raise a total of £30,000) for horses rated less than 80, carrying a minimum of 11stone 7 pounds...
Since 1971 this June meeting has raised in the region of £5,500,000 for good causes and provided some fantastic racing excitement. Please give generously here and attend on the day if you can: you will be helping to raise money for this wonderful charity. As everyone knows, Macmillan provides incredible practical, medical and emotional support as well as pushing for improved cancer care in all areas.
Please support Macmillan with a donation, large or small, it all counts and makes a difference!
Thank you so much,
Peter Craggs
