Hello there I am running in the Adidas Silverstone Half Marathon on 6 March 2011. Why? well for a Charity called CORPAL. Corpal is a not for profit charity for people with Agenesis of the Corpus Callosum (known as ACC). ACC is a condition in which the band of fibres (Corpus Callosum) which connects the two sides of the brain fails to develop either partially or fully. This means the brain fails to work as it should and leads to other problems for the individual such as developmental delay, lack of or limited speech, mobility and muscle tone issues, eye problems and also behavioural/social problems.
My son Tyrone is 18years old now he was diagnosed with Agenesis of the Corpus Callosum when he was 9 months old. He has struggled every step of the way with his health and social problems. He has had well over 30 operations, developed epilepsy at the age of 11 which can become so hard to control, has Cerebal Palsy and a kidney disorder which will eventualy lead to him needing a transplant, despite all of this (like many of those with ACC) he is a charming, happy and wonderful young man that never complains and lives life to the full he has achieved so much despite all the health issues that he has.
One day I was browsing the internet when I came across Corpal the support group which is for some a lifeline for parents/carers into understanding the condition, putting you in touch with others, providing practical advice and just a friendly chat when at times things are a struggle.Corpal is run by volunteers (parents). Without donations the charity would not be able to survive. I have recently become a member of Corpal and can now see first hand the hard work that goes into arranging annual meetings, providing a magazine etc.
I hope to raise £3,000 but if I can raise more all the better so with your support in donating I hope to achieve this. Thank you so much for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
