Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

In November I will spend 7 days riding a Yamaha AG 200 in Zambia to raise funds and awareness for Riders for Health. I have started learning to ride a bike off road in preparation for the trip but have a long way to go! I will be training (fitness and riding) as much as possible in the lead up to the trip.

The trip itself will be an amazing opportunity to see first hand the incredible work Riders do and see how motorbikes are saving lives in Africa . We will visit health centres and talk to workers about how their jobs have been transformed by having reliable transport. We will be riding the same bikes that enable health workers to reach remote villages to provide health care these communities wouldn’t have access to otherwise..

We are lucky enough to live in a country where health care is readily available. That is not the case in Africa but Riders are helping to change this. The doctors use motorbikes to reach remote villages to provide health care. I will be riding with them to see how Riders is helping to save lives.

Currently, 30,000 children under the age of five die every day across the developing world from preventable or treatable diseases including measles, diarrhoea and malaria.

One fundamental reason for this tragic situation is that these children are not being reached with regular health care. One African health worker can be responsible for up to 20,000 people, scattered across miles of treacherous terrain. Even the best roads are little better than dirt tracks. The few vehicles that do exist are often unreliable.

By supporting Riders you will help to ensure that health workers in Africa reach millions more people in rural communities with the health care that that developed world take for granted. Our innovative work means health care in these areas is never undermined by failing vehicles, no matter how harsh the conditions.
