Dear all,
Oh. Oh dear. What am I doing? Well, I am working for a small charity called Escape Artists. Over the past eighteen months we've teamed up with The Syd Barrett Fund for some pretty awesome things so far - all in the name of helping disadvantaged people to access the arts as a means for improving wellbeing, confidence, skills and employability - such as The City Wakes festival in Cambridge in 2008 and a slot at the world's first auction set to music at Phillips de Pury. Simon even jumped out of a plane.
Me? Well, I'm going to channel my rock 'n' roll self and.... walk to Cambridge.
Starting at The Roundhouse (legendary home of 60s psychedelic cool) on 2nd April we plan to arrive in Cambridge, via Grantchester Meadows and Byron's Pool and lots of Syd and Floyd-centric locations, on Easter Sunday.
The boss has visions of us arriving, suave and victorious, like something out of an Evelyn Waugh novel by punt up the Cam... I suspect we'll be a muddied, bedraggled mess that no one would let in their boat, but still victorious!
The last time I walked any distance at all was the annual Theale Green 10 mile sponsored walk round Englefield Estate (how many years ago was that girls?), so surely 60 miles is worth a bit of cash for charity - even if you're only betting me I don't make it ;)
Love,
Abi
And now for the science bit...
