Message from David |(sax player with the Jazz Badgers) and Roslynn Clarke...
As many of you will know, our daughter Abigail was very poorly when she was born. At just 5 hours old she was rushed from Cheltenham to Bristol suffering with convulsions and a blood disorder linked to oxygen starvation during the birth process. The initial outlook was not good and we were advised that she might not survive. At Bristol's St Michael's hosptial Abi received two blood transfusions and was offered a pioneering 'baby cooling' treatment. By reducing her body temperature and effectively inducing hypothermia, doctors were able to stabalise Abigail and help her brain overcome the bleeding which had occured.
Thankfully, the treatment was a success. 12 days later, we were able to return home and start being a family, putting the nightmare behind us.
The staff at the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit saved Abigail's life. They are truly the most wonderful, dedicated professionals you could ever hope to meet. But they need help. To keep a single intensive care bed running costs tens of thousands of pounds a year. The equipment is state-of-the-art and is expensive. The Wallace and Gromit Grand Appeal exists to help support the purchase of new equipment and is instrumental in establishing the cutting edge treatment that Abi received.
On Friday November 20th, 'The Jazz Badgers' and friends will attempt to play Jazz non-stop for 24hours. The event takes place at Cirencester Town Football Club, kicking off at 7:30pm with a curry night and charity auction. There is a late bar until 2am if you wish to stay and wish the Badgers well as they continue to play on through the wee small hours.
If you are interested in attending the event or donating something for the auction (it can be a promise!) then please contact me at daveaclarke@sky.com. Tickets are £12.
If you can't make it (or even if you can!) then please sponsor us!
