Our Story

JustGiving was started in early 2000 by two women, Zarine Kharas and Anne-Marie Huby, with a simple, but big, vision. They wanted to help break down the barriers to fundraising, and to use the internet to allow people to raise more for the charities they care about.

With the help of some visionary investors, they created JustGiving, the UK’s first online fundraising website. They made sure it was quick and easy to use, and 100% secure to donate through. A few charities got on board. Some fundraisers did too. And soon JustGiving processed its very first online charitable donation.

The goal was simple: to give you the online tools you need to raise more for your charity – and to help you raise more than you would anywhere else.

We’ve grown since then. Here in the UK, over 9,000 charities have joined JustGiving. Over 12 million of you have together raised a staggering £700 million for these charities on our website. JustGiving has also launched offshoots - FirstGiving in the US and JustGiving Japan.

But we haven’t stopped there. We work tirelessly to deliver you the very best tools for your fundraising. We’re always finding new ways to make JustGiving work even faster and more easily for you. We are constantly developing our new tools, like our recent apps for iPhone and Facebook, that make fundraising easier. And we always seek new partnerships, as with PayPal, that makes giving itself even easier to do.

We keep all of this going by charging charities a small fee to use our site. We systematically reinvest this entirely in the business – using it to build the next generation of online fundraising tools. We are a social business. Profits don’t come first. Helping you raise more is what matters to us, just as it does for you. Our investors believe this firmly too. It’s why, after ten years, they have yet to make a penny back.

Ten years on, our aim is as focused and as simple as when we began. We exist entirely to help you raise more money for the causes you care about.
