On April 25th 2010, I will be running the London Marathon in a bid to raise £1800 for Guy's & St Thomas' Charity. The charity funds a wide range of projects from small schemes that improve the patients' environment, to major initiatives that involve the purchase of cutting-edge equipment to diagnose or treat illness.

Past successes include supporting London’s first children’s hospital – the Evelina Children’s Hospital, modernising kidney disease, stroke and sexual health services in Lambeth and Southwark, funding state of the art research laboratories, and providing free concerts and therapeutic arts projects to aid patient rehabilitation.

Current major projects include a programme to improve end of life care for older people by enabling them to die with dignity in an environment of their choice, developing a virtual reality environment to enhance rehabiltation for children with neurological disorders, providing a performing arts programme to bring a therapeutic mix of music, dance and drama to patients and visitors.

How can you help?

Ø     £10 could provide a comprehensive information pack for a newly diagnosed cancer patient

Ø     £30 could purchase a special gift for children staying in hospital over Christmas

Ø     £50 could support a performing arts programme to give patients the chance to relax and be entertained

Ø     £100 could purchase gym and audio-visual equipment to provide physical therapy in the pain treatment unit
