Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.
On Thursday 2nd January at 36 weeks, my partner and I gave birth to a beautiful baby girl called Lila Grace Chipperfield. Sadly she never woke up to see her mummy, daddy & brother.
We went into hospital on Thursday morning only to be told the most devastating news imaginable, that baby Lila’s heartbeat could not be found.
The next stage was even harder as we had to proceed with the labour with the knowledge that our beautiful baby girl would never wake, cry or ever grow up.
Even worse was to follow when we had to explain to our 4 year old son that the sister he was so looking forward to meeting wasn’t coming home.
Shortly after, we learned about the charity SANDS.
SANDS is a national charity, established by bereaved parents in 1981. They have 3 core aims which are to:
- To work in partnership with health professionals to improve the quality of care and services offered to bereaved families; and
- To promote research and changes in practice that could help to reduce the loss of babies' lives
The statistics for stillbirth and neonatal death in the UK are shocking and new research has revealed that the UK has one of the highest stillbirth rates in the developed world; 17 babies are stillborn or die shortly after birth every single day, yet very little is being done to bring this horrific number down. SANDS believe that this figure is totally unacceptable and have been working hard to raise awareness of stillbirth and newborn baby death, not only with the media but also amongst the government and policy makers.
If I could be a part of anything that contributes to that cause then to me that is worthwhile so please support by donating, however much or little, it really is going to a good cause.
Thanks
Adam, Jess, Harley and Lila!
