The AVN £25,000 charity challenge Mark Wickersham and Geoff Thomas are taking part in the 2008 London to Paris bike race in June (details below) and AVN is aiming to raise £25,000 for the Geoff Thomas Foundation. In addition to the aim of raising £10,000 on the day at the AVN Conference on 30 April 2008 we are inviting your firm to take part in the AVN/GTF Corporate Challenge to help us get to the £25,000 target.
AVN/GTF Corporate Challenge This is your chance to help raise much needed funds for the Geoff Thomas Foundation and have the opportunity to mix with Geoff and celebrity friends at the forthcoming GTF Golf Day at Collingtree Golf Club on Thursday, 25th September (date subject to confirmation). You will receive a complimentary team of four players and your day will include 18 holes of golf, three-course evening meal and entertainment. This is a fantastic opportunity to entertain clients or employees as well as mixing with special guests on the day.
How your practice can get an invitation to the Golf Day There will be places available for the three AVN firms that raise the most money for Mark and Geoff’s attempt at the 2008 London to Paris bike race by 30 June 2008 (subject to those three firms raising at least £500 each). Note: any money pledged by your firm or your team at the AVN Conference on 30 April will be taken into account in the AVN/GTF Corporate Challenge. If you want to take part in the corporate challenge sponsorship forms are available from Becky Frewing (email her at becky@geoffthomasfoundation.com). Then visit http://www.justgiving.com/addedvaluesolutions no later than 30 June and enter the total amount your firm has raised. And if you want to make individual donations just visit the AVN page of Justgiving using the above link. (Note: Becky is looking into the possibility of setting up an online Justgiving page for your firm within the AVN page. She will advise you when you email her for the sponsorship forms.) Even if you are not one of the three AVN firms that raises the most money by 30 June, for all firms that raise £2,000 or more Geoff will meet you in 2008, providing you with a photo opportunity, and AVN will write a press release that you can use to publicise your fundraising.
About the 2008 London to Paris bike race The fifth edition of the London-Paris Cycle Tour takes place from 26-29 June 2008. It is a unique 3 day “Tour de France” style endurance event for amateur riders. It is the "professional event for amateurs". Like a pro event it has full support, rolling road closures and covers 600km in three days followed by a rest day in Paris. This PRO/AM event includes stars such as double Olympic Gold medallist James Cracknell, Tour de France, Giro and World Cup winner Stephen Roche, Max Sciandri and ex-GB no 1 Brian Smith. Last year it was ridden by ex-professional cyclists Sean Kelly and Johann Museeuw and even they thought it was hard. Visit http://www.londres-paris.com/site/html/home/index.php to find out more.
About the Geoff Thomas Foundation The Geoff Thomas Foundation is committed to the development and delivery of new treatments for patients with leukaemia and other blood cancers across the country. The advances in medical science, which made Geoff’s bone marrow transplant possible, have offered him a realistic hope of a cure. Sadly for many people with leukaemia effective treatments still do not exist. However the remarkable scientific advances which have been made in the last few years in understanding why leukaemia and other blood cancers develop has now given the medical teams the information they need to design new drug transplants and therapies. Progress will only be made however if doctors and scientists across the country can be given the resources they need to work collectively to develop and deliver these new treatments. We have therefore brought together the five leading consultants at top centres in London (Barts), Birmingham, Manchester, Nottingham and Oxford in order to identify what they need to make real progress in finding a cure for this terrible disease.
