AVN and Geoff Thomas Foundation
AVN members may have heard ex-England and Crystal Palace footballer Geoff Thomas talk at the AVN spring conference or the National Tax Conference in 2008. Geoff’s battle against leukaemia is a truly inspiring story and AVN’s Mark Wickersham has already cycled in the London to Paris bike race in June to raise funds for Geoff’s charity, the Geoff Thomas Foundation (GTF).
Now, AVN is proud to have forged more permanent links with GTF and made it our adopted charity. Through this link, AVN intends to raise awareness and funds for the GTF.
You can read more about the GTF at their website (www.geoffthomasfoundation.org) but briefly, the GTF was formed when Geoff’s life was saved by a bone marrow transplant after he was diagnosed with leukaemia.
Other patients aren’t so lucky and they need life-saving new drugs. The GTF aims to raise £20 million in 5 years to fund treatment trials at six world-class centres in Manchester, Oxford, Cambridge, Nottingham, Birmingham and London.
By 2015 the GTF hopes all blood cancer patients will have access to a potential cure.
How you can get involved
We are in the process of planning a number of activities for AVN members to get involved in to help raise money for the GTF in its fight against leukaemia and other blood related cancers. So keep an eye on the Upcoming Events section to see what’s going on.
And of course, if you would like to run your own fundraising event for the GTF please let us know here at AVN and we’ll do what we can to help make it a success.
Upcoming Events
As an added incentive the GTF are offering two Virgin Atlantic Flights to anywhere in the world to the fundraiser who raises the most between now and Christmas Eve.
