Thank you for taking the time to visit my fundraising page.
As many of you will know, I’m a huge supporter and active volunteer for the Whale and Dolphin Conservation Society (WDCS).
“Save the Whale Week” is an annual campaign that serves to keep the ban on commercial whaling in place. I’ve been involved with this campaign for the past 10 years…but this coming year (on ) I hope to raise vital funds by undertaking a 100ft abseil at ’s Avon Gorge.
It would be great if you could help me reach my target…so please, please consider sponsoring me. I’d greatly appreciate your support!
Below is a little more information about the cause…and if that’s not enough to convince you to part with a pound or two then just imagine little old me, dangling over a cliff face…100ft above the ground!
Thanks for reading!
Love and best wishes to you all.

“Save the Whale” Campaign:
The ban on commercial whaling came into effect in 1986, yet since then over 30,000 whales have been killedby , and and pressure is mounting for the ban to be lifted.
This year, a number of governments represented at the International Whaling Commission (IWC) seem set to vote for a proposal that would lift the ban on commercial whaling by granting legal commercial whaling quotas in its coastal waters in return for voluntarily reducing its controversial ‘scientific’ whaling in .
WDCS has called for the rejection of the deal as unworkable, unenforceable and dangerous for the conservation of whales.
The proposed coastal-whaling deal would not only mark the end of the ban on commercial whaling, but offers no guarantee of stopping ‘scientific’ whaling, and it does nothing to stop Norway and Iceland’s expanding hunts. In addition, has announced that it is ready to start whaling too and is looking to the IWC to tell it how many whales it can kill.
Whaling is cruel, unsustainable and unnecessary. The long and infamous history of commercial whaling has demonstrated that it is impossible to ensure that hunts are properly regulated, sustainable and humane. There remains:
- no humane way to kill a whale at sea no mechanism (that the whaling nations are willing to accept) to ensure compliance with effective regulations no scientific certainty about the ability of whale populations to withstand hunting in the face of growing environmental threats including climate change.
Your help is needed!
WDCS rely almost entirely on the generosity of individuals like you to enable them to continue their vital work to keep the ban in place. Your donation will help WDCS to:
- 1. Lobby the US Government to reassert its leadership role in the conservation of whales. WDCS have already met White House advisors and they want WDCS’s advice 2. Persuade the other governments which are members of the IWC to oppose the deal that would spell the end of the commercial whaling ban. 3. Continue to investigate and expose the use of whale products in goods such as pet foods, and growing levels of international trade. 4. Continue to raise awareness about the cruelty inflicted on these intelligent mammals.
Please, please show your support for the cause by offering a small donation.
