My story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page for my attempt on the London Marathon 2012.

Two months ago I was asked by a great friend of Laetitia and mine whether I would be interested in running the marathon on behalf of the charity she volunteers for, the Samaritans in Putney, London. Given that the majority of the exercise I get nowadays is trying to  tackle a hyperactive two year old, the London Marathon wasn't on my agenda for 2012, but I said yes immediately.

Firstly it is a chance for me to raise some money for an amazing team of people doing work that's right at the front line of society. Volunteers for the Samaritans give up many hours of their time each week to help people in real distress. Could you do four hours, three evenings a week helping people in real distress? Me neither.

So please use my London Marathon effort as a  vehicle to give as much money as possible to this amazing organisation. It saves lives every day, tragically doesn't get any funding from the government, and it deserves your support.

The second reason that I said yes was for the simple reason that I want to see if I could beat a) my own marathon time, set five years and 1 child ago and b) an astonishingly good time set by my irritatingly athletic younger brother. The former is tough, the latter is nigh impossible.

And there's a twist. In the run up to the marathon I will be touring Asia for work, so in between airports, I'm going to have to run 15K+ in 7 Asian cities en route to ensure I don't do the London course in the back of an ambulance.

For those interested there will be updates via the usual social channels of the view from the running routes of Tokyo, Beijing, Shanghai and Taipei among other locations, but no obligation. Far more important is that you donate a ton of money to the Samaritans. Running 26 miles is chicken feed compared to what these guys do everyday.

Thanks for taking the time to visit my Justgiving page, the usual detail from is below.

Thanks againf or visiting.

Adrian
