My story

I have a target of the modest sum of £460 for a reclining chair which converts to a bed so the loved one of a dying patient can stay close to them in comfort in an NHS hospital.

Therefore, for the third time I am tackling the British 10K London Run - and this time it's personal!  I'm determined to beat my previous times and show what I can really achieve.

Imagine you have an elderly relative like your Mom or your Dad who is so ill they are in hospital.  It would be lovely for them to spend that time, which may even be the last few hours of their life, with their family around them. In an NHS hospital, due to lack of space and/or facilities, this is often very uncomfortable for relatives.

I am raising money for a reclining chair which converts into a bed, it doesn't take up too much space on the ward and makes it more practical for an elderly patient to spend those last few vital hours with their loved ones close by.  It's not one of the sexy sides of fundraising, but I know I would like to have that option when the time comes.

We wouldn't expect the government to pay for making relatives of patients comfortable but it is one of the added extras that make the difference. One chair costs £460 and I have chosen to try to raise this sum for a chair for the Charlton Ward (an elderly care ward) at the Lister Hospital.
