My story

Thank you for your interest in African Hearts - a group of street children who have transformed their own lives with the help and passion of one young man with a vision.

Young people are self taught to play these instruments and every second is spent practicing.  If you feel inspired by the short video clip you have seen then we can tell you more about this project.

African Hearts is a project made up of young orphans who are trying to find ways out of poverty and bettering their lives.  Most of these young people have experienced life at a very young age living on the streets where they have eaten other people's waste and had to bed just to feed themselves.  No-one is their friend and it has been a very lonely place.

So far there are over 50 young boys in this project but there is only room to house 16 of these who live in one small room which is owned by an older lady in the community who has given these boys a roof over their heads.  Over 5 years it has taken this project to where it is today.

They have a dream to build a centre where they can offer more support to other young people including girls.  This is very expensive and will take time.  However, they are very motivated young people and, having set aside a percentage of the bands' earnings, they have started the process of constructing a new centre.  It will take some time to achieve the full build of the centre but they will not give up ...!

You can make this process easier and quicker by buying 1 brick.  We have estimate that the cost of a brick, along with mortar and labour to be £1.  Every brick will make a difference to these young people and will help get more of them off the streets.

Being able to have a place that they can call home with others they can call brothers and sisters makes life not seem so lonely.

The money the boys raise goes towards food, clothing, medical fees and, most importantly, paying for their education.  Education means much to African people as it is a way out of poverty and the route to independence.

You never hear these young people complaining about their misfortunes - they just deal with what they have been given, with a SMILE!

If you would like to help financially, please donate online now.  Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure.  It is also the most efficient way to donate to African Hearts:  WACIA will receive your money faster and, if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you.

Many thanks for your support.
