I want to personally thank you for visiting my fundraising page. For those of you who have seen the documentary "We Are Together," you are familiar with amazing children I so desperately want to help; for those of you who have not viewed the film, I urge you to see it on HBO or buy/rent the DVD.
Agape is a children's centre is the KwaZulu Natal region of South Africa, a region hit the hardest by HIV/AIDS. Started by a woman affectionally known as "Grandma," she has worked to allow these children--all orphaned by the epidemic--a suitable place to live, learn and grow, despite having lost their loved ones.
These children possess a special gift: the gift of song. For those unfamiliar with South African culture, song and dance are a vital part of life and self-expression. The film focuses on Slindile Moya, a young girl with a powerful musical gift. She and her nine siblings are orphans, but their fondest memories of their parents are being taught to sing and consequently always singing as a family--something all the children do constantly to keep the happy memory of their parents alive.
I urge you all to seek out information on the children of Agape and donate whatever you can to these extraordinary kids. Everyday more and more children lose family members to HIV/AIDS and Agape needs all the support it can get to be able to care for these children. As a life-long musician and someone who has had a special love for South Africa for many years, I have decided to create this page not only to foster awareness, but to help these children who continue to smile and laugh in the face of adversity.
Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It’s also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Be More gets your money faster and, if you’re a UK taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation.
You can also visit the documentary's main page at www.wearetogether.org, where you can purchase the CD recorded by the children's choir, which features songs showcasing the amazing talent these kids possess, alongside such talents as Alicia Keys, Paul Simon, and South Africa's own Zwei Bala. Also for purchase now is the film itself, and just like I am doing here with this page, all proceeds from the sales of CDs and DVDs go straight to Agape.
I want to thank you for taking the time to learn about these children. If you have any questions or suggestions, please do not hesitate to contact me (lindsay.heller@hotmail.com). In addition to your much-appreciated monetary donations, I plan on hand-making special bracelets that we can all wear to raise awareness about the AIDS epidemic and the Agape Children's Centre. For anyone donating US$10, please contact me directly with your mailing address and I will send you one of these bracelets.
Once again, thank you all and God bless.
