About AICR
Cancer is a world-wide problem and the incidence of the different forms varies from country to country.
AICR funds projects in many different countries and encourages collaboration between individual recipients of grants.
Applications for research grants are received from research staff at universities and research institutions world-wide and are peer reviewed.
AICR differs from other cancer charities in the UK in that the main source of the research funds is money raised by sophisticated direct mailing techniques.
In addition there are funds derived from individual donations, legacies and direct debits. No money is received from government or public institutions.
Our history
The Association for International Cancer Research (AICR) is an independent British cancer research charity with headquarters and registered office in St. Andrews, Scotland, where it has been based since 1984.
As AICR does not employ research staff directly, or run its own laboratories, it is not encumbered with the financial overheads involved in these activities. This allows it to apply all its available funds to cancer research.
