The Prince’s Trust - Himalayan Action Challenge · 26 February 2010 ·

The King’s Trust supports 11 to 30 year-olds who are unemployed or struggling at school to get their lives on track. Many of the young people we support are in or leaving care, have been in trouble with the law, or they are facing challenges such as homelessness or mental health issues.

An Opportunity to Change Young Lives

Due to the current economic climate 'The Princes Trust'  is experiencing a larger number of young people coming to them for support. They help young people in need of financial support, but to change their lives they also offer them the opportunity to gain new skills. They run a number of programmes that provide young people with an opportunity to gain apprenticeships, Level 1 qualifications and develop a range of life skills, helping people from all backgrounds; ex offenders, underachievers, unemployed and those in or about to leave care. Unfortunately because of the recession they have limited funding and are unable to help in all cases. I am therefore, taking part in one of the trusts challenges which can be anything from mountain biking across the Sahara Desert, taking part in the Himalayan action challenge, to getting involved in their Arctic Adventure Challenge-  http://www.justgiving.com/aimee-stein0

Case study 1

At a young age and due to a serious illness, Jamie lost his hearing. However he was fortunate enough to regain it after quite a few operations. This temporary loss however led to a new found appreciation for sound. As a result, a passion for music followed and Jamie learnt as many musical instruments as he could get his hands on. This meant he neglected a traditional education.

In 2007 Jamie received funding from the Prince’s Trust to start his local music business Listen2Listings. While booking acts for the local strawberry fair in 2008, Jamie discovered indie-band Hamfatter and then became their band manager. With huge support from his business advisor, Jamie gained the confidence to apply for funding on BBC’s Dragons Den and won investment from Dragon Peter Jones.

Case Study 2

Rich is a gifted, self-taught artist who discovered his talent when struggling with problems at home and used art as a form of therapy. He was unemployed and looking for a way to combine his creativity with business and approached The Prince’s Trust for a low-interest loan.

Rich then set up a clothing label called Deadscene. With a unique style of design and a creative business plan, the company grew and Rich was able to redirect his time and effort to set up a new project called Art is the Cure (AITC).

Knowing exactly how art can help, Rich used his story as a way to inspire other people to discover art therapy. Founded with the intention of promoting art therapy as a positive release for people suffering from a variety of disorders and illnesses, AITC has seen its message spread worldwide.

Rich has recently signed a worldwide licensing deal with an agent in LA which will see AITC grow massively in both a commercial and media sense. Rich has already got a deal in place with a major American clothing label and with galley shows, music tours and media coverage lined up, AITC looks set to continue to go from strength to strength.

I know everyone is in the same boat with the current economy, however, I am hoping to raise as much money as possible from gaining the support from my local community, charity fundraising/ events and from sponsors. I’d, therefore, be very grateful if you would consider showing support for the young people in our community by sponsoring me at- http://www.justgiving.com/aimee-stein0

If you feel that you are in a position to help it would be great to hear from you! Friends and family plllleeeaaase get involved.

Thank you!!!! :)
