My name is Melanie my daughter Aiyana celebrates her fifth birthday on September 26th. I was diagnosed with Mouth Cancer in December 2005. I did not smoke or drink which is often associated with the disease. Georgia Cooper in 2005 at 7 years old was also diagnosed with Mouth Cancer. amongst many others demonstrates that Mouth Cancer can affect anyone of any age.
Nearly 4 years on I am committed to supporting The Mouth Cancer Foundation and raising awareness of Mouth Cancer. My daughter Aiyana was 15 months old when I was diagnosed with Mouth Cancer. 1: Every year a higher number of people are diagnosed with MOUTH CANCER than Cervical Cancer or Testicular Cancer
2: Mouth Cancer has a higher proportion of deaths than Breast Cancer Cervical Cancer or Skin Melanoma
3: The Mortality rate of Mouth Cancer is just over 50%
4: In the Mouth Cancer Kills 1 person every 3 hours
5: 1 in 2 People do not Survive Mouth Cancer as consequence of the lack of awareness which leads to late detection
Every year since 2006 with my daughter Aiyana I have participated in The Mouth cancer sponsored 10km walk which takes place in www.mouthcancerwalk.org.
This year the walk is on September 26th the day of Aiyana's 5th Birthday Party to continue to show support to The Mouth Cancer Foundation an organisation which helped me and continues to support people affected by Head Neck Cancers I would like to raise awareness at Aiyana's 5th Birthday Party.
