My story

We did it! 993 miles in 20 days. Now back to real life... sigh

[Check out our online journal at endtoend.netlagoon.com]

This September I will be cycling the length of Great Britain - a distance of about 1000 miles - in aid of the Leukaemia Research Fund. This is a very worthy cause and one close to my heart - my sister Sarah was diagnosed with leukaemia and died in 1999, aged 16, and I would like to dedicate this ride to her.

I will be riding with James and Sophie Fairbairn, and Ed Cohen. The journey will take 3 weeks, averaging about 50 miles per day, starting at Lands' End, the southwestern-most tip of Cornwall, and finishing at John O'Groats, the northeastern tip of Scotland. Hopefully, by taking on this journey, we will be able to raise both awareness and money for the important work undertaken by LRF.

The idea of riding the End to End came to James and myself when we were on holiday in Cornwall a few years ago. Whilst visiting Land's End, we noticed two exhausted-looking cyclists arriving and popping open some champagne in celebration. At the time I wasn't a particularly keen cyclist, but the idea of seeing the length of the country under my own power captured the imagination, and since then I have become a real enthusiast, always training with one eye on the "E2E". SPONSORSHIP: If you would like to sponsor me, you can do so on this webpage using a credit/debit card. Be sure to click "Pay on Completion" so that your card is only charged after we complete the ride. "Sponsor Us Now" will charge you immediately. Alternatively, you can just pledge a donation to me and I will keep a record of it - just get in touch. James and I began supporting LRF in 2003, when we were sponsored to ride the 12-mile London Bikeathon. At that time I raised about £350 - roughly £1 per mile per donor. I wouldn't recommend that kind of rate for a 1000-mile ride! Do give generously though, and remember that your donations will make a big difference to the future treatment of leukaemia. Check out www.lrf.org.uk for more info.
