My story

My name is Alem Mumuni. As a child I suffered from polio and crawled for 9 years. I am now Ghana's leading para-cyclist, and African Champion for C2 paracycling. I am on a mission to win gold at London 2012, to become a role model for society and to help erase the negative stigmatisms towards people with disabilities. My full profile can be found here.

I am one of four para-athletes being supported by the charity Right to Dream who are providing us with specialised training, opportunities to compete at international competitions, sports pyschology and nutrition as well as financial support and opportunities to progress as individuals. Right to Dream are providing us with the best possible chance of reaching our true potential and qualifying for Ghana at the biggest ever Paralympic Games.

But it is more than just the Games. I am determined to use this opportunity and platform to change the perception of disability in Ghana from a negative to a positive one and inspire the next generation to get involved with sports and believe that they too can achieve great things.

I need your help to raise money for a new bike and to support my efforts. Please support me if you can.

"Together let us erase the negative perceptions our society has towards people with physical disabilities by using the power of sport".
