My story

Hi. Welcome to my fundraising page.

My name is Alex. I am a 40 year-old, happily married father of three lively boys. I ride motorcycles, sing in bands, run ultra marathons and enjoy adventure racing. I also have Parkinson's disease.

I was diagnosed with this currently incurable disease in June 2008. Rather than accept that this is my lot, I decided to get the most out of life. I'd like to make change happen and fight this disease. I hope that you'd like to too?

Every year Parkinson's afflicts over 120,000 people in the UK and thousands more around the world. This is a disease that robs the sufferer of the ability to move, imprisoning them in their own body, effectively preventing them from enjoying the things that most take for granted. What's more, most people will ignore Parkinson's as they believe that it only affects the old. The truth is, it affects all; from teenagers to the elderly. I know. I am a case in point.

I am determined to make change happen and raise funds towards the vital research needed for a cure!

My wish is to run, walk and crawl the equivalent distance of 10 million metres that's over 6000 miles by 2014, including completing the Marathon des Sables 2010, Grand Union, Europe135 and traversed  1457 miles across Europe in 30 days. Currently planning a 3200+ mile trans USA challenge, triathlons, trail races, abseiling really high buildings and anything else that's dangerous, tough and keeps me moving to raise the £1 million target to fight Parkinson's Disease.

All I ask is a minimum of £2 from you. If you can donate more, thank you. Please give in confidence that all of your donation will go to The Cure Parkinson's Trust.  Please go to my website and find out more about this well deserving charity and discover more about Parkinson's disease.

For more information on my efforts, updates on the above races and other events which I'm involved in, or if you'd like to get in touch, please see the following links
