On the 6 of December 2009 10
teams of students flocked to Battersea Park to take part in ABC’s first
University Football Tournament, in order to raise money for an extremely exciting
international project called Street
Child World Cup.
Street Child World Cup is taking place in Durban in March.
The project will fly 8 teams of street children from 8 different countries from
around the world to Durban to be given the once in a lifetime opportunity to
play in a football tournament and to represent their country. The most
important part of this campaign is an
international conference that will take place where the children will be
given for the first time in their lives a voice, and a chance to express their
day to day struggles as street children in front of world delegates and policy
makers. The main focus of Street Child World Cup is to find sustainable and
effective solutions to the lives of street children in at least these 8
countries. ABC Trust is proud to represent Team Brazil and is a key member of
the central organising team for Street Child World Cup. We organised the
University Football Tournament in order to raise the funds needed to support
Team Brazil and to make sure that they can be a part of Street Child World Cup. www.streetchildworldcup.org
We asked each team that took part
in the University Tournament to raise £1,000 between them so we hope to raise a
minimum of £10,000 from this, but this is still not quite enough and this event
cost just under £500 to put on.
We are now trying to raise money
to help cover our costs for the tournament, so that we can guarantee a minimum
of £10,000 to be raised, so please help by donating anything small or large to
help make sure Team Brazil and the children of Brazil can benefit from this.
Many thanks and a happy New Year!
