The Fastnet Race is the jewel of offshore yacht racing. The 608 mile competition has taken place during August, every second year since 1925 and attracts crews from all over the world. Three Hundred yachts of all classes race from Cowes, along the coastlines of Dorset, Devon and Cornwall and out into the Irish Sea. Rounding the Fastnet Lighthouse, Ireland's most southerly point, the crews then return to the finish of the race at Plymouth. Often eventful and always exciting the Fastnet Race has the reputation for being one of the toughest yacht races in the world. In 2009 the crew of Rob Nelson, Alex Dunn, Mark Lee, Mark Green, Dave Parr and Tim Lucas will be competing in the Fastnet Race in a J109 - Jumping Jellyfish. Mark Lee, Tim, Rob and Alex all tried to complete the race in 2007 but sadly had to retire due to the horredous weather conditions. This is the main driver behind their pulling together a crew for this year's race - that and to have some fun. The team have entered 4 races so far and have (to our surprise) done quite well - 12 in class overall and 29th overall in the RORC classes (thats out of 345 boats!!).
