Our goal is to cycle 600kms in six days and raise a minimum of £3,500 each to support the work of the British Urological Foundation. BUF was set up to improve the management of urological disease. 5,000 men in the UK are diagnosed with prostate cancer and currently 10,000 die each year. Out of every 100 men with cancer, 24 of them will have prostate cancer. Some of the funds being raised through the cycle challenge will be used to train more surgeons and surgical teams in robotic assisted surgery, to help improve patient outcomes for those people with prostate and bladder cancers. Currently not all patients have access to robotic assisted surgery - the British Urological Foundation is helping to introduce this treatment option in the UK through its mentoring programme which helps train and supports the surgical teams involved. I would be very grateful if you could consider sponsoring me to Cycle Malawi in the quest to make robotic assisted surgery for prostate and bladder cancer available for more patients in the UK.
