Thanks very very much to everyone who has already supported my charity, Dreamflight. If you want to and you haven't made it to the web page yet, you can still donate here. The guys at Dreamflight do an amazing job for seriously ill and disabled children. You will be making dreams come true. Finally, after 4 months of training, I crossed the finish line! It started out as a nice fresh sunny day. Nicky and I stayed at the Hilton Surrey Quay, to be close to the event. Nice place, but the marathon porridge was too stodgy! I got to Blackheath on time and got in line with thousands of other runners. Its amazing how many charitable causes there are out there. I met an Aussie school principal who was raising money to save the Tazmanian Devil! I had trained hard-ish and I was ready. I planned a 4:30 finish and it went really well until about halfway. First my two little toes started to feel very blistered. Next my right achilles heel started aching badly. But I kept going, albeit much more slowly. Nicky was waiting at mile 23 with Becky and Robert. This year I stopped to say hello, last year I quickly sprinted off as she called my name (in case I had forgotten to do the dishes!). I finally crossed the line at 5:33 dragging my unwilling achilles behind me... Next time I say I'm running a marathon please remind me that I promised never to try it again! You can check my results at http://results-2008.london-marathon.co.uk/. My runner number is 4026. Thanks again for all your support. Kind regards, Alex Sakpoba
