Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page. Me and my fiance Alex have decided to take up the challenge of cycling from London to Paris in just 4 days! We're doing this to raise money for a charity really close to our hearts, 'The Cure Parkinsons Trust'.
Five years ago, my Dad was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease. As you may already know, Parkinson’s is a neurological condition which affects movements (such as talking, walking and writing) and is caused by a loss of nerve cells in the brain.
Since Dad was diagnosed his disease has obviously had a significant impact on his life, as well as the life of myself, my brother and other family and friends. As a result of his condition he was made to retire from full time work and now has to take regular medication to keep him mobile, as well as having various gadgets around the house to help him with day to day tasks that we often take for granted. Unfortunately, due to the nature of Parkinson’s my Dads condition will get worse and he will continue to find his movements deteriorating over time. It has been really hard for us all to see such an independent, active man have his life changed by Parkinson's and it is only due to his pure courage and determination (as well as his well known stubborness!) that he still keeps as busy as he can with his lifelong love for both Scouting and cricket.
The ‘Cure Parkinson’s’ Trust is one of the charities which is working towards finding a cure for Parkinson’s disease, which is why we have chosen to take up this challenge for them!
We really really hope that you will help us achieve our target amount of £2,800 by sponsoring us on our bike ride so we can help people like my Dad not to suffer as a result of Parkinson’s disease.
