As most of you are aware, when I return to the UK in July Im cycling London to Paris. I have always wanted to bathe the elephants since I was 7 years old and I wrote to Jimmy Savill for him to fix it for me (TV programme that made childrens wishes come true) my letters were obvioulsy not read as my dream didnt come true! Since coming to Singapore and knowing the travelling opportunitys were so close, the family took a trip to Chang Mai to stay at the Elephant Nature Park, where we stayed a night and spent 48 hours with the elephants and the mahoots. It was such an emotional weekend, seeing elephants in a semi natural enviroment, enjoying the nature around them....these elephants were privileged albeit they all had injuries of some sort from their past, blinded by catapolts, run over by cars..the list is endless, but each elephant had been saved by the parks owner Lek. She buys these elphants off the greedy mahoots for ridiculous sums of money up to US$20.000 just so the elephants can stop begging in the streets of bangkok or elephant painting for tourists, elephant rides or just wandering the street throughout Thailand.
