Hello and welcome to all our family and friends!
As you know by now, we are getting married on 21st November 2009 and we have set up these pages with the hope that you would donate to one or both of the charities that we are hoping to raise money for.
Last year Ali's Dad developed peripheral neuropathy in his legs and feet following some chemotherapy. Thankfully his pain is much reduced and we're all looking forward to him being able to walk Ali down the aisle on the 21st November! However, for some people the pain can be debilitating and doesn't go away - here's a little information about the condition...
Peripheral neuropathy is damage to the nerves of the peripheral nervous system. It can cause pain, numbness, changes in sensation and tingling. It most commonly affects the hands and feet but can affect any nerves outside the brain and spinal cord. We all know what toothache or a bad headache feels like and how glad we are when these painful conditions subside. It’s almost beyond our capability to imagine pain which doesn’t always go away and which might even last for years. Picture someone very close to you, in desperation because of neuropathic pain in the feet, going outside at four o’clock on a winter’s morning and standing on a frozen lawn to lessen the pain and burning sensations. This is a real-life example, by no means extreme, of how this type of pain may affect a person.
The Neuropathy Trust relies almost entirely upon voluntary donations in order to continue with its valuable work. Making a donation helps to ensure that they can continue to help people who are affected by peripheral neuropathy and neuropathic pain. You can read more on their website: http://neurocentre.com/community/
Thank you for looking at this page and for making a donation to support this worthy but little-known cause. Please consider also making a donation towards the Multiple Sclerosis Society -you can find our other page at www.justgiving.com/alixandsimongorst/
Lots of love,
Ali and Si

P.S. Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It’s also the most efficient way to sponsor me: The Neuropathy Trust gets your money faster and, if you’re a UK taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation.
