About the charity
Allergy N I is a local charity formed in 2005, to support individuals and
families with serious and potentially life threatening allergies by
providing education, information, support and campaigning on their behalf.
Living with a serious and potentially life threatening allergy can be
frightening but it is manageable, with support and information. Talking
with someone who has gone through similar experiences can help you feel more
positive about the future. Many of our members willingly offer this service
as we all remember our own feelings and concerns, especially when initially
diagnosed.
Our workshops and meetings enables members to increase their knowledge and
understanding of allergies as well as offering practical help.
Children often feel they are alone in having a serious allergy. Our
workshops for teens and younger children together with the 'Nut Free'
Halloween party, helps them to realise there are many children and young
people just like them.
It is also a good way to meet new friends, both for children and parents.
Establishing the Allergy N I Support Centre has been our goal for almost
five years and recently this came to fruition. People can now call into the
Centre and receive advice, information and support.
It is estimated there are 180,000 children (40% of child population) in N.
Ireland with allergies and a third of adults. Many children have more than
one allergy.
