Hi Everyone,

On August 4th 2007 Simon Carter and myself started our 'end to end' bike ride from -Lands End to John O'Groats.

I AM VERY PLEASED TO SAY THAT WE COMPLETED THIS ENORMOUS TASK ON SCHEDULE - ON THURSDAY AUGUST 16TH AT A WET AND GALE BATTERED JOHN O'GROATS AT APPROXIMATELY 3.00PM. - COMPLETING 981 MILES IN THE PROCESS.

AND TOO DATE I HAVE RAISED £2,088 AND 18p PLUS THE £239.04 GORDON BROWN COUGHS UP FOR HIS BIT IN GIFT AID.....

It's something I have always wanted to do for years - and now the deed is done.

Simon and I had a great experience completing this journey, and I don't really want to bore you all with the up's and down's - you can read these for yourselves from the daily updates on our joint home page on www.longwaytogo.co.uk. and click on 'daily updates' . There you can view our on the moment thoughts and feelings. These were so carefully kept up to date by the 'webmaster' Peter Carter, Simon's father. Great job Peter!

We will be living off this high for a long time and will properly bore you all to tears if you mention 'how did it go'? So be prepared.

I do want to thank sooo many people which made this all possible and who supported us from the start of training to 3.00pm on the 16th.

Simon for being a great buddy and huge support throughout the whole experience. He gave encouragement where required (which was often!) and what a cracking map reader! So many 'father facts' on route as well.

To our wives, Gwenn & Helen for their support and help to make this all happen. Lifts here and there, packed lunches, Sudocream, cuddles, text's of encouragement like 'are you there yet donkey?' THANK YOU GIRLS X

Trish and Rod, Martin and Carol for allowing us to use their homes as stop off's on route. Manchester and Enterkinfoot. They made us feel very welcomed, looked after us really well with which meant so much to us. THANK YOU!

We started out on this trip to be self sufficient and unsupported, carrying what we needed to wear and what we wanted to eat. Travelling so light we did depend on the help and generosity of our guest house hosts to wash/dry/feed us well. This they did without a second thought! There is a great untapped British institution in B&B's awaiting you to discover them. In our opinion the 10 we used on route were bloody marvellous -THANK YOU LADIES!

Reita & Peter Carter for travelling up to John O' Groats on the Thursday and coming back with us on the Friday, a round trip of 1300 miles! THANK YOU!

Most importantly I would like to thank YOU GUYS!

Those of you who left emails, those who had my mobile number and text some great encouraging messages. YOUR SPONSORSHIP and kind messages left on this site are just so touching! It's the first time I have seen a lot of them THANK YOU!

It has been a once in a lifetime trip with every day a memorable day in one way or another. Meet some lovely people, had a great time and sadly it is now over.

981 miles. The distance is quite awesome isn't it? How did we do it?

Beggars the question - What next?

Again - Many thanks EVERYONE for your kind and generous support. Don't forget that this 'justgiving' page is STILL open for donations and your continued support IS appreciated.
