Challenge Adventure Charities - The Alpine Challenge · 25 September 2009 ·

For 25 years, we have organised cycle events, mainly in Europe. We have raised a huge £4,378,361 mainly for cancer, heart and other medical research. We pride ourselves that EVERY PENNY that has been raised has been paid to charity - our participants paying the full fees for event entry themselves.

Story

We're back after a successful trip!  A BIG Thank You to all sponsors

We're pleased to report that the team returned relatively unscathed (just a few aches, pains & punctures) from taking part in the Challenge Adventure Charities 2009 Alpine Challenge.  Along with nearly 60 other teams of four, we cycled over 550 miles (including some unexpected 'route barree - deviation') at an average of nearly 19 mph, perhaps reflecting good weather and litlle wind - but still plenty of challenging hills!

We have very nearly reached our target total (with further monies pledged) which is donated to Cancer Research UK, Macmillan Cancer Support, and Help for Heroes.  Many thanks indeed to all friends, family members and colleagues who kindly sponsored our team and have already made generous donations.  For those last minute waverers waiting until we completed, you can help us achieve the final few % and perhaps even get close to the £3000 mark: donations can still be made - just hit the button below!  Alternatively, you can send a cheque payable to Challenge Adventure Charities to any of the team.

Once again, many thanks for your support!

The Route:

This year's Alpine Challenge required us to cyle in relay over 500 miles from Laon in northeastern France to Annecy in the French Alps, raising a minimum of £1000 in the process.

We travelled to France by Le Shuttle on the evening of Thursday 24th September and headed South for 165 miles, cycling past champagne vineyards and the rolling countryside of Chablis and the first night's stop at Auxerre.

On Saturday, we headed East through the 'Chocolat' film village, then on towards the source of the Seine North of Dijon, crossing lovely countryside before we arrived at Besancon 182 miles later.

Sunday saw some good ascents over the final 162 miles; we climbed into the Jura mountains, past ski stations and stunning Alpine scenery before arriving at Lac Annecy with its historic and picturesque old quarter.  There was just time for a refreshing swim in the late afternoon sun to cool off!

A memorable trip indeed and, because we all paid our own way, all the money you donated has gone to charity. There's still time to contribute if you haven't already, so please help if you can.  Thank you!
