ObjectiveClimb Mera Peak in Nepal, and raise money for the charity that is in place to support the Troops returning from Afghanistan and other war zones, disabled and that need our help!
Mera Peak is a mountain which lies in the Himalayas, in the Sagarmatha region of Nepal. At 6,476 metres (21,247 ft). First successful ascent was made by Col. Jimmy Roberts and Sherpa Sen Tenzing on May 20, 1953. From the summit of Mera Peak, the peaks of Mount Everest, Lhotse, Cho Oyo and other Himalayan peaks can be seen. It is a technically straightforward mountain to climb, the main hurdle being proper acclimatization to the high altitude. In 1986 Mal Duff and Ian Tattersall made the first ascent of the south west pillar. The route is approximately 1,800 metres (5,900 ft) in length and graded at ED inf. The approach to the base of the pillar is extremely exposed to serac fall.
We will be looking to raise money for the charity Royal Marines Benevolent Fund and HOT (Honour Our troops). The team is made up at present of eight male and two female members, six are ex HM forces two of whom are disabled from Iraq and Afghanistan, two of the proposed team members are serving in the police force and two are in the medical profession.
