Leeds University Amnesty Society are having a Darfur Awareness Day on 6th February. Part of the day includes a 24hour fast to raise awareness of the humanitarian crisis in Darfur. We will be wearing signs saying that we are fasting for Darfur and holding a stall and cake sale (which will be painful for those of us fasting!!) in the union, and spend the evening in Moorish watching a documentary on the situation in Darfur.
CARE have worked in Sudan for over two decades and have been active in Darfur since April 2004 and currently provide direct humanitarian assistance to over 450,000 war-affected people. CARE's work includes water and sanitation, community services and distribution of food and other relief items.
We hope that in raising awareness of Darfur we can also raise money to support CARE in all their humanitarian work.
